DESCRIPTION
Assembly cup assembly and collar for plastic spray container Background of the invention
The present invention relates to an aerosol container and, in particular, to a container for dispensing a pressurized product that is formed of PET or similar plastic materials. The present invention also relates, in particular, to a mounting cup and collar assembly for such a container, and to the methods of manufacturing the container and the mounting cup and collar assembly therefor.
Description of the prior art
The reference to any prior art in the present specification is not, and should not be considered as, a recognition or any form of suggestion that the prior art is part of common general knowledge.
The applicant has previously invented and developed various aerosol containers, made of PET and similar plastic materials, that overcome a number of deficiencies and provide significant improvements over the prior art of that time. This includes the applicants' previous international patent applications No. PCT / AU2005 / 001474 and No. PCT / AU2006 / 00614, which have evolved in various national / regional patents, including United States Patent No. 8025189.
These prior inventions relate to a container, which includes a body of plastic material, to which a collar is attached thereto, to support a dispensing valve. The collar is provided, at least in part, to be placed on both sides of the inner and outer walls of the container, in order to provide structural integrity to the neck of the container and thus facilitate fixation of the components of the dispensing valve the same. Although this provision provides significant improvements, which facilitates the use of PET plastic containers instead of the traditional metal containers for the supply of pressurized / aerosol products therein, mainly intended to conform to the traditional manufacture of the time, assembly and filling operations, which existed at that time, while allowing a transition to the use of PET plastic materials

More ecological for the supply of aerosol products. Plastic containers require careful considerations about metal containers, to provide a safe container capable of withstanding the relatively high pressures provided within such containers without cracks, leaks, etc.
In the applicant's previous products, as described in the aforementioned patent applications, the body was normally blow molded and stretched from polyethylene terephthalate (PET) or similar plastic materials, and had a neck shaped around an opening . The collar was also injection molded and shaped to snap or screw into the shaped neck of the body around the opening.
Although the applicant's previous patent application offered significant advantages over the prior art, the applicant has now identified alternative versions of the PET aerosol container that have differences with respect to the applicant's previous products and processes, and that offer greater benefits. about them.
The applicant has invented significant improvements in relation to the maintenance of the union of the collar to the container during the manufacturing process, and has achieved a design that has characteristics comparable to the metal and aluminum containers of the prior art, while It has the advantages of using PET plastics.
Summary of the invention
The present invention is intended to provide a container for dispensing an aerosol product and, in particular, a mounting cup and collar assembly therefor, which overcomes at least some of the disadvantages of the prior art.
The present invention is also intended to provide a container and a mounting cup and collar assembly for the same that has the advantages of manufacturing and / or assembly line with respect to known methods.

Detailed description of the preferred embodiment
In all drawings, the same numbers will be used to identify similar characteristics, except where expressly stated otherwise.
The present invention relates to a container for dispensing a pressurized or aerosol product in which the container (1) includes a body part (2), a collar (4), a mounting cup (5) and a valve dispensing (6). The body part (2) includes a base (3) at a first end thereof, and a neck part (10) at a second end thereof. The neck part (10) further includes, preferably, one or more ribs (12).
For explanation, the collar (4) can be divided into first, second, third and fourth sections, labeled 14, 16, 18 and 20, respectively, as shown in Figure 2.
As illustrated in Figure 2, the inner surface (22) of the collar (4) is preferably provided with a plastic, rubber, polyethylene (PE), polypropylene (PP), or a similar coating to help create, when a seal is mounted between the collar (4) and the neck part (10) of the container (1).
As illustrated in Figure 3, and also to aid in the explanation, the neck part (10) of the container (1) can be divided into first, second, third, fourth, fifth and sixth sections, labeled 24, 26 , 28, 30, 32 and 34, respectively. When the collar (4) is attached to the neck portion (10), such as by crimping, the lining (22) disposed on the inner surface of the collar (4) is sealed against the neck (10).

35
A mounting cup (5), as shown in Figure 4, can also be provided with a plastic coating (36) on its inner surface to be sealed, when mounted, with the other components of the container (1). This coating can be made of PP, PE or other suitable material.
The crimping process of this embodiment of the invention can be carried out both externally and internally in relation to the collar and neck portion of the container. The external crimping process would crimp the respective neck sections in the respective sections of the neck part. The internal crimping process would set the dispensing valve mounting cup against the collar section and also crimping it against the respective sections of the neck part.
The container (1), as shown in Figure 1, is preferably formed of plastic material such as PET. The body (2), including its base (3) and its neck part (10), is preferably formed integrally by blow molding and stretching plastic material, such as a polyethylene terephthalate (PET), from of a preform, as described in the applicant's patent specifications mentioned above. The neck part (10) may include one or more ribs (12).
The improvement according to this embodiment of the invention is mainly in relation to the collar (4) and the neck part (10). The collar (4) according to the present invention is made of metal, such as tin or aluminum or similar materials.
This embodiment of the collar (4) of the present invention is in a different way from that of the collar illustrated in the applicant's patent mentioned above. The assembly of the collar (4), and subsequently the dispensing valve (6), on the container is perhaps best illustrated in Figures 5 to 8, but with reference to Figures 2 to 4.
The first section (14) of the collar (4) is shaped in such a way that the mounting cup (5), with the dispensing valve (6) attached, can be crimped thereto, to guarantee thereafter that the various Components do not separate from each other when the container is in use. A second section (16) of the collar (4) is shaped and configured to fit the dispensing valve mounting cup (5). A third section (18) of the collar (4) is a section that extends from the second section (16) to the fourth section (20) as shown in Figure 2.

The fourth section (20) of the collar (4) is basically an elongated section that actually extends beyond the length of the first section (14). Reference is again made to Figure 2, in which the inner surface 22 provided with a plastic coating is shown. According to the present invention, said plastic coating (22) is preferably designed to be between about 200 and 300 micrometers in size. This plastic coating (22) can be applied during the manufacture of the collar (4) using known methods. The plastic coating (22) is provided to create a seal between the collar (4) and the neck portion (10). Another purpose of said plastic coating (22) is to ensure that the upper and outer part of the neck part (10) is not damaged during the crimping process.
It should be appreciated that said collar (4) is preferably formed of a material that is capable of withstanding high pressures, but at the same time soft enough to bend in any desired shape. A malleable metal material, such as tin, aluminum or steel are examples of suitable materials.
Reference is made to Figure 3, in which the neck part (10) according to the present invention is shown. Similar to the collar (4), the neck part (10) could be divided into a number of sections. A first section (24) of the neck part (10) includes a straight part that is designed to absorb force during the crimping process in which the dispensing valve mounting cup (5) is crimped into the collar ( 4) and in which, in doing so, the plastic coating (22) on the inner part of the collar (4) is pressed against this first section (24) of the neck part (10) to seal so Effective components in a fluid tight manner. It should be noted that this first section (24) of the neck part (10) is designed and configured to be the thickest section in the neck part (10), so that it can withstand the force and pressure applied during the process of crimping. The neck part (10) further includes a second section (26) in which this section is provided to act as a first seal between the collar (4) and the container when the collar (4) is attached to the neck part of the container, in which during this process, the collar (4) is pressed down mechanically by a crimper.
The neck portion (10) further includes a third section (28) in which this section is a ribbed section, which includes one or more "crush ribs" to provide a second additional seal between the collar (4) and the container during the crimping process, similar to the description of the second section (26) of the neck part (10). The neck part (10)

It also includes a fourth section (30) that is designed and configured to hold and fix the collar (4) in the container during the crimping process. This is also to ensure that the collar (4) does not separate from the vessel at high pressures. The fifth section (32) of the neck part (10) is designed and configured to provide an effect similar to that of the fourth section (30). This section is provided to further improve the ability to not allow the collar (4) to separate from the vessel at high pressures. Finally, the sixth section (34) of the neck portion (10) is provided for manufacturing purposes, which is a conventional feature in the container manufacturing process, as well as for attaching a plug (not shown) in the container ( one).
It will be appreciated that when the collar (4) is attached to the neck part (10), the plastic coating (22) which is arranged in the inner part of the sections (14, 16, 18, 20) of the collar (4 ) would be set in the sections (24, 26, 28, 30, 32) of the neck part (10), thus creating a seal and ensuring that the collar (4) does not separate from the vessel under high pressure.
It will also be appreciated that the dispensing valve mounting cup (5) is also provided with a plastic coating (36) on its inner surface. Reference may be made to Figure 4, which shows the location where the plastic coating (36) is arranged. The plastic coating (36) is disposed on an inner surface of the mounting cup (5) to provide a seal between the mounting cup (5) and the collar (4).
Reference is again made to Figures 5 to 8, which show how the various components can be assembled. Specifically, Figure 5 shows the various components in an exploded cross-sectional shape, including the neck (10) of the container (1), the collar (4), the mounting cup (5) and the dispensing valve (6).
It will be understood that, in this embodiment, the crimping is performed both externally and internally. This action results in the collar section (4), as described above, being crimped into the neck part sections (10) as described above. The external crimping process would set the section (20) of the collar (4) in the sections (30 and 32) of the neck part (10). The internal crimping process would set the dispensing valve assembly cup (5) against the section (14) of the collar (4) and, in addition, would be crimping it against the section (24) of the neck part (10).
Once the dispensing valve mounting cup (5) is set so

securely in the collar (4) and the collar (4) is securely set in the neck part (10), the container is then assembled.
It will be appreciated that, although a specific embodiment has been previously described herein, variations and modifications can be made in the shape and configuration of the collar (4) and the neck part (10), while the advantages of the invention. All these variations and modifications should be considered within the scope of the invention, as described hereinbefore.
It will be appreciated that the method and manufacture of the container are similar to those described in the applicant's application mentioned above, with the exception that the collar (4) is formed differently to achieve the advantages described above herein.
As mentioned above, both the collar (4) and the dispensing valve mounting cup (5) are made of metal and, therefore, in order to ensure a good seal between the two metal elements, provides a plastic coating (36) therein. Similarly, the plastic coating (22) is also provided as a seal between the collar (4) and the neck portion (10) of the container. Alternatively, other sealing means could also be provided in order to provide the same effect as the plastic coating (22, 36). This could be selected from natural or synthetic materials.
The embodiment of the invention, as described in Figures 1 to 8, can be summarized as follows:
The container for dispensing a pressurized product includes a body part (2), a collar (4), a mounting cup (5) and a dispensing valve (6), and in which the body part (2) includes a base (3) at a first end thereof, and a neck part (10) at a second end thereof and in which the neck part (10) further includes one or more ribs (12), characterized because the collar (4) is divided into first, second, third and fourth sections (14, 16, 18 and 20), in which:
(i) the first section (14) of the collar (4) is specifically designed to conform to a process of crimping the dispensing valve mounting cup (5) on the collar (4) and subsequently ensuring that the cup from

In this container, the collar (4) is attached to the neck part (10), the plastic coating (22) that is arranged in the inner part of the sections (14, 16, 18, 20) of the collar (4 ) would be set in the sections (24, 26, 28, 30, 32) of the neck part (10), thus creating an ideal seal and ensuring that the collar (4) does not separate from the vessel under high pressure.
In this container, the dispensing valve mounting cup (5) is also provided with a plastic coating (36) on the inside of the dispensing valve mounting cup (5) in order to provide a seal between the mounting cup (5) and the collar (4).
In this container, the crimping process is carried out both externally and internally on the collar (4) and the neck part (10).
In this vessel, the external crimping process would set the section (20) of the collar (4) in the sections (30 and 32) of the neck part (10).
In this vessel, the internal crimping process would crimp the dispensing valve assembly cup (5) against the section (14) of the collar (4), also greasing it against the section (24) of the neck part (10).
In this container, natural or synthetic materials can be used to provide the same effect as the plastic coating (22, 36).
In another embodiment of the container, the collar (4), the mounting cup (5) and the dispensing valve (6) can be provided as a single piece and in which the section (16) of the collar (4) fits or it fits firmly on the section (26) of the neck part (10), thereby providing no gap between the section (16) of the collar (4) and the section (26) of the neck part (10) .
In this embodiment, said collar (4) includes a material hard enough to withstand the pressure, but at the same time soft enough to bend in any desired shape.
This alternative, which is also the preferred embodiment of the present invention, is illustrated in Figures 9 to 15. In this alternative embodiment of the invention, a single-piece mounting cup and collar assembly is used instead of the assembly of the mounting cup and collar by

separately shown in the previous embodiments.
As shown in Figures 9 to 15, the container according to this embodiment of the invention is similar to that of the embodiment of Figures 1 to 8, but using a single piece mounting collar and cup assembly (53) , as detailed in Figure 11. A container (1) formed in accordance with this embodiment, includes a body (2) formed of plastic material such as PET. The body includes a neck (10) defining an opening (50) of the container (1). The opening includes an internal wall (51) and an external wall (52). A assembly cup assembly and unitary collar (53), whose profile is shown in enlarged form in Figure 11, is placed on both sides of the inner and outer walls (51 and 52) of the opening (50). The mounting cup and collar assembly (53) includes a central hole (54) in which the valve stem (62), etc., can be incorporated and fixed thereto (to dispense the pressurized / aerosol product disposed in the container).
Preferably, the mounting cup and collar assembly (53), as illustrated in Figure 11, is formed of a malleable material, such as tin, aluminum or other metal material. As will be recognized by a person skilled in the art, it should preferably be produced from a material that does not interact with the contents of the container, etc., while being able to be crimped for attachment to the container. Preferably, it can include a plastic, PE, PP, or similar material lining that can help minimize reaction with the contents, and also help seal the components of the container, that is, provide a seal between the assembly and the valve , and between the assembly and the container, as will be described further herein below.
Preferably, the mounting cup and collar assembly (53) is shaped such that it can be easily inserted through the neck (10) of the container (1) and then fixed thereto, as shown in Figs. 12 and 13. Figures 14 and 15 show, below, how the assembly cup and collar assembly (53) can be crimped into the outer wall (52) of the neck (10) of the container (1). To this end, and as shown in enlarged form in Figure 15, the outer wall (52) preferably includes at least one groove (55) or recess (56) for crimping the assembly (53) therein.
Figures 14 and 15 show a groove (55) formed in the neck (10) of the container (1). A region (57) is highlighted around the periphery of the mounting cup and collar assembly (53) for fixing the mounting cup and collar assembly (53) to the outer wall (52) of the neck
5

(10) of the container (1). Preferably, an end portion (58) of the mounting cup and collar assembly (53) is also crimped or deformed inwardly as shown to engage a corresponding recess (56) in the outer wall (52) of the neck ( 10) of the container (1). This facilitates the retention of the assembly (53) on the neck (10), and also works to hide the end (58) of the assembly (53) which can normally be acute and prone to cause injury.
As best illustrated in Figures 14 and 15, the outer wall (52) of the neck (10) further includes, preferably, at least one crushing rib (59) therein, which provides a better tight coupling with the assembly ( 53) compressing the plastic, PE, or PP (60) coating.
Therefore, it will be understood by those skilled in the art that the present invention therefore provides a single mounting cup and collar assembly (53), which is distinguished from the prior art both in its form and in its function, especially because it is produced in the form of a single piece. Preferably, this one-piece assembly (53) incorporates a double-layer metal construction (61) and liner (60) that aids in sealing the components of the container.
It will be appreciated by those skilled in the art that through the use of this one-piece mounting cup and collar assembly (53), the manufacturing of the general container (1) is greatly simplified. In the manufacture of the container according to the present invention, it will be appreciated that the container body (1), or a preform thereof, can first be constructed to have a neck (10) defining an opening (50). The assembly cup and collar assembly (53) can then be attached through the neck (10) of the container or the preform, such that it is placed on both sides of the inner and outer walls of the container. The assembly of the mounting cup and collar can then be fixed to the assembly, by greasing it on the outer wall of the neck. This differs from the prior art in that the setting of a prior art mounting cup in a container was traditionally performed on the inner wall of the container.
It will be appreciated by those skilled in the art that manufacturing the container according to the present invention therefore avoids the need for any glue or sealant, which has clear manufacturing advantages not only due to the removal of the glues, etc., which by itself could save costs, but also, to the effective elimination of manufacturing stages

additional ones involved in the application of glues or adhesives or senators.
